Bikes Ranked answers a small number of specific questions about bicycle fit and part compatibility, using the manufacturers' and standards bodies' own published figures.

What you will find here

Three pages, each answering one fit question with the manufacturer's own numbers. Sizing, tires and drivetrain — the three places where a confident guess costs you a return shipment.

• Medium or large? — The chart says I'm between sizes, and two 'mediums' are different. Which do I order?
• Will this tire fit my rim? — My rim says 622 x 19C and the tire says 700 x 35C. Will it fit?
• Why won't the cassette slide on? — Same number of speeds, but the new cassette won't go on the hub. What do I buy?

How the pages are put together

Every figure is traced to a document we opened and read, and that document is listed at the bottom of the page with the date we read it. We prefer manufacturer specifications, published standards and official support documentation, and we quote them narrowly rather than generalising beyond what they say.

Where the answer depends on your exact model, we say so and point you at the specification field to look up. Knowing which number governs is more durable than being handed a guess.
